How Do Filter Pitchers Work?

Water filter pitchers have two sections that are separated by the filter. You pour tap water into the top reservoir and then the water passes through the cartridge to the storage tank below. Once the water is filtered, you can pour it out though the spout of the pitcher.

What Contaminants Does a Filtered Water Pitcher Reduces?

Almost all pitcher filters reduce chlorine, but some are also effective at removing other contaminants. For instance, pitchers that use cartridges containing ion exchange resin are also able to reduce heavy metals. This resin comes in the for of minuscule beads filled with sodium. They work by exchanging their sodium ions for the magnesium and calcium ions in your tap water.
